South Dakota - Harney Peak in South Dakota will now be called Black Elk Peak on federal maps.  This unanimous decision was made Thursday by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names (BGN). The mountain is not only the highest point in the state, but is the highest peak east of the Rocky Mountains.

Hidalgo, Texas - Border Patrol agents assigned to the Weslaco Station rescued a woman and her four-year-old daughter Tuesday morning during the midnight hour. The woman told Border Patrol agents her daughter had been shot days earlier in Mexico by smugglers during a robbery.
