Sacramento, California - Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia supported two key veteran initiatives (AB 583 & AB 930) in the Assembly appropriations committee today. AB 930 would authorize the Adjutant General to accept federal funding to supplement the Work for Warriors program. The second bill AB 583 would provide employment protection to members of the National Guard who work in California and are called up by their Governor in another state.

Washington, DC - Two bills authored by Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia that are critical to the Salton Sea region passed the Assembly this week.  AB 197 passed the Assembly Natural Resources Committee on a 6-2 vote yesterday.  This bill would require the Public Utilities Commission to direct investor owned and publicly owned utilities to procure renewable energy resources that provide energy around the clock, and help achieve the state’s greenhouse gas reduction goals.

Brown Jr. today issued an executive order to establish a California greenhouse gas reduction target of 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030 – the most aggressive benchmark enacted by any government in North America to reduce dangerous carbon emissions over the next decade and a half.
