Washington, DC - Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) for the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs Marik String will travel to Amman, Jordan April 8-12, 2019.

In Amman, DAS String will represent the State Department at the U.S.-Jordan Joint Military Commission, a forum in which senior U.S. and Jordanian government and military officials will discuss ongoing security assistance and military cooperation, as well as develop plans for our robust security partnership.

Jordan is a close partner with the United States in addressing a range of diplomatic and security challenges throughout the region, including dealing with the crisis in Syria, combatting violent extremism, and advancing Middle East peace. Jordan’s stability and security are a priority for the United States, which has provided assistance to Jordan’s security efforts since the late 1960s. U.S. military assistance broadly supports the Jordan Armed Forces’ ability to secure its borders, counter terrorist threats, participate in Coalition operations, and defend Jordan’s national territory.
