Washington, DC - Secretary Michael R. Pompeo met with Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva today.

They discussed the importance of U.S.-Bulgarian bilateral relations, Bulgaria’s plans to modernize its military, and energy diversification as a European energy security priority. They also discussed global affairs such as Iran’s ballistic missile program, the importance of maintaining sanctions on Russia, and their shared interest in advancing stability, security, and prosperity for the countries of the Western Balkans.
