N’Djamena, Chad - U.S. Ambassador to Chad James Knight broke ground on the new U.S. Embassy in N’Djamena today, a milestone in the enduring friendship with the Republic of Chad.

Beijing, China - U.S. Special Envoy for Climate Change Todd Stern, Acting Assistant Secretary Judith Garber for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Energy for International Affairs Jonathan Elkind, travel to Beijing, March 18–20, 2015 for a series of meetings on climate change and environmental cooperation.

London, England - Today, the United States assumed the Chairmanship of the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPs) Initiative at the closing of this year’s Annual Plenary Meeting in London. In the VPs Initiative, governments, companies and non-governmental organizations work together to guide oil, gas, and mining companies in minimizing the risk of human rights abuses involving security providers when companies extract resources in some of the toughest parts of the world.

Washington, DC - On the heels of the President and First Lady’s launch of the Let Girls Learn international girls education initiative, Mrs. Obama will travel to Japan and Cambodia from March 18-22, 2015. She will visit Tokyo on March 18-20, Kyoto on March 20, and Siem Reap on March 20-22.  She will be joined by Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet.

Blinken will lead the U.S. delegation to the Organization of American States (OAS) Special General Assembly in Washington, D.C. on March 18 for the election of a new Secretary General and Assistant Secretary General to head the Western Hemisphere’s premier multilateral organization. The Special General Assembly is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
