Group Supervisor Theodore Schmitz from HSI Washington, D.C. won the Silver Medal in the men's triathlon 45-49 class.

“It was an honor and privilege to be able to represent HSI in the World Police and Fire Games while competing with colleagues from around the world,” said Schmitz.

Special Agent Chris Moore from HSI Washington, D.C. teamed with Mack Jones, a retired officer from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, and won the Bronze Medal in darts.

“I have not competed in such a large event and was somewhat intimidated at the thought of competing against multiple national and world champions,” said Moore. “However, the friendly environment and the professionalism of the Fairfax County Police staff that managed our event made the adjustment easy. The competitors had plenty of time to talk and learn a little about families, jobs and cultures.  I started out meeting strangers and ended up with many professional brothers and sisters around the world.”

Special Agent Angie Applegate assigned to HSI Law Enforcement Support and Information Management Technical Operation Unit in Lorton, Virginia won the Gold Medal in the women’s mountain bike cross country race and a Gold Medal for the women’s 10-mile time trial race.

“I never raced before and just wanted to participate and support our law enforcement brothers and sisters,” said Applegate. “It was an honor to represent the agency and the nation. It’s not just about the competition and winning, it’s about the brotherhood of police officers and firefighters – the first responders from around the world.”

Special Agent Ellen Pierson from HSI Tampa won the Silver Medal for the mountain bike competition and Bronze Medals for the time trial and the road race.
