Washington, DC - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today posted warning letters to four companies who produce homeopathic drug products for significant violations of current good manufacturing practice (CGMP) regulations, including a letter to King Bio Inc. of Asheville, N.C. The FDA previously warned the public about the agency’s serious concerns with the quality of drug products produced by King Bio.

Victoria, Texas - The Justice Department today announced that it has reached a settlement agreement with the Housing Authority of Victoria, Texas (Housing Authority). The settlement resolves a complaint that the Housing Authority discriminated against a lawful permanent resident when it rejected his valid employment documents and fired him in violation of the anti-discrimination provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). While it is illegal under the INA for employers to knowingly hire individuals without work authorization, it is also illegal under that law for employers to discriminate against lawful permanent residents, among other work-authorized immigrants, in the hiring process.

Baltimore, Maryland - A Riverdale, Maryland man was sentenced to 312 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for his participation in the racketeering enterprise known as La Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13, including a murder and attempted murder.

Washington, DC - South Korean authorities extradited to the United States a Ukrainian man in connection with allegations that he conducted an extensive money laundering and fraud campaign that targeted dozens of victims, including a corporation based in the Western District of North Carolina.

Houston, Texas - A retired Kansas native, who was residing in Panama, was sentenced Friday to 210 months in prison, for use of sexually explicit depictions of a minor for importation into the United States, announced Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division and U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Patrick of the Southern District of Texas.

Boston, Massachusetts - Fresenius Medical Care AG & Co. KGaA (Fresenius), a German-based provider of medical products and services, has agreed to pay approximately $231 million to resolve investigations by the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) into violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) in connection with Fresenius’s participation in various corrupt schemes to obtain business in multiple foreign countries.
