Calexico, California - Border Patrol agents assigned to El Centro Sector arrested a sex offender and a known gang member with lengthy criminal record over the weekend.

The first incident occurred Saturday at approximately 1:18 a.m., after agents assigned to the Calexico Station arrested a man near the Calexico Port of Entry for suspected illegal entry.  Agents determined the man was a citizen of Mexico illegally present in the United States.

Record checks revealed the man, 43-year-old, Alberto Silva-Garcia, is a citizen of Mexico who was convicted for multiple crimes including possession of cocaine, theft, burglary, larceny, domestic violence, DUI, and battery.  Silva was previously deported from the United States on March 10, 2003.  On May, 28th  2010, Silva was sentenced for 12 months prison, and 36 months supervised release for re-entering after prior removal.  Silva admitted to being an active member of the Sureños Gang.

Silva will be held pending criminal prosecution.

The second incident occurred at approximately 7 p.m. Sunday evening, after agents arrested a man 11 miles west of the Calexico Port of Entry for suspected illegal entry. 

Agents transported the man to the El Centro Station, where record checks identified him as Jose Flores-Alfaro.  The 50-year-old Mexican citizen, was convicted of Sexual Abuse of a Child on Feb. 15, 2001, for which he was sentenced to 10 years prison.  Flores was subsequently ordered removed on August 5, 2009.  After being removed in 2009, Flores later re-entered the United States and was sentenced to 21 months prison on August 2, 2016.

Flores will be held pending criminal prosecution.
