Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced the following appointments:

Victoria Hassid, 35, of San Francisco, has been appointed chief deputy director at the California Department of Industrial Relations, where she has served as deputy director of legislation and policy since 2015 and was special counsel from 2012 to 2015. Hassid served as a deputy appointments secretary in the Office of the Governor from 2011 to 2012 and was a post-graduate research assistant at the University of California, Davis School of Law in 2010, where she was a research assistant from 2008 to 2010. She was a summer law clerk at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 2009, a legal intern at the Yolo County Counsel’s Office in 2009 and a legal policy intern at the Planning and Conservation League in 2008. Hassid was a regional sales manager at Education First from 2006 to 2007. She earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Davis School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $149,160. Hassid is a Democrat.

Ronald Emard, 75, of Palmdale, has been reappointed to the 50th District Agricultural Association, Antelope Valley Fair Board of Directors, where he has served since 2006. Emard has been owner at Harley-Davidson Lancaster since 2004. He was general manager at Robertson Honda from 1984 to 2012, general sales manager at Nesen Motor Car Company from 1977 to 1984 and a sales person at the Webber and Cooper Motor Car Company from 1970 to 1977. Emard is a member of Destination Lancaster, Antelope Valley Sheriff’s Boosters Board, Kid’s Charities of the Antelope Valley and the Chamber of Commerce of the Greater Antelope Valley. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Emard is a Republican.

Kathryn Mac Laren, 58, of Palmdale, has been appointed to the 50th District Agricultural Association, Antelope Valley Fair Board of Directors. Mac Laren has been a business development associate at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and National Electrical Contractors Association Labor Management Cooperative Committee since 2013. She was a membership representative at United Food and Commercial Workers Local 770 from 2004 to 2013 and a general clerk at Food 4 Less from 1991 to 2004. Mac Laren is a member of the Antelope Valley Sheriff’s Boosters and the Barnyard Belles. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Mac Laren is a Democrat.

Felipe Reina, 33, of Palmdale, has been reappointed to the 50th District Agricultural Association, Antelope Valley Fair Board of Directors, where he has served since 2013. Reina has been a realtor at All People’s Realty since 2018 and a sales manager at Dillard’s Department Stores since 2014. He was management and program analyst at the Federal Aviation Administration from 2012 to 2013 and central vault finance lead at NBC Universal/Comcast from 2004 to 2012. Reina was a remote pilot operator at Raytheon from 2008 to 2011 and at the Washington Consulting Group from 2007 to 2008. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Reina is a Democrat.

Sandra Smith, 58, of Lancaster, has been reappointed to the 50th District Agricultural Association, Antelope Valley Fair Board of Directors, where she has served since 2010. Smith has been executive director of the iLEAD Schools Foundation since 2018 and member of the City of Lancaster Planning Commission since 2016. She was chief executive officer at the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce from 2013 to 2015, director of operations for the Border Sierra and Orange County Region American Cancer Society from 1997 to 2013 and director of volunteers and a patient advocate for the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services from 1993 to 1997. Smith is a member of the Antelope Valley Fair Association, Lancaster West Rotary and the Antelope Valley Fair Joint Powers of Authority. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Smith is a Republican.
