Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments:

Darrel Woo, 65, of Sacramento, has been appointed chief of the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services at the California Department of Consumer Affairs. Woo has been 1st vice president for the Sacramento City Unified School District Board of Education Area 6 since 2018, where he has served in several positions since 2010. He served as a senior attorney at the California Department of Insurance from 1999 to 2014 and was an adjunct professor of law at Lincoln Law School of Sacramento from 1999 to 2009. Woo served as a staff counsel at the California Department of Food and Agriculture, Division of Fairs and Expositions from 1996 to 1999 and as an energy facility siting planner at the California Energy Commission from 1975 to 1996. He earned a Juris Doctor degree from the Lincoln Law School of Sacramento. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $122,964. Woo is a Democrat.

Sterling Mayes, 73, of El Centro, has been reappointed to the 45th District Agricultural Association, California Mid-Winter Fair and Fiesta, where he has served since 2015. Mayes has been secretary and treasurer at the Imperial County Building and Construction Trades Council since 2007. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Mayes is a Democrat.
