California Makes First Investments in Hundred-Million-Dollar Energy Research & Development Program

Sacramento, California - The California Energy Commission approved its first $10 million to fund Electric Program Investment Charge (EPIC) research and development (R&D) projects during its monthly business meeting today. The Commission also approved grants for the operation of a hydrogen fueling station, biofuel production, geothermal exploration and rooftop solar for schools.

Sequoia National Park, California - The National Park Service is initiating public scoping on a proposal to evaluate a full range of ecological restoration options to address a large erosion gully in Cahoon Meadow, located within the John Krebs Wilderness of Sequoia National Park. The purpose of this project is to protect and restore wetlands in Cahoon Meadow.

Burbank, California - eSolar®, a leading developer of modular, scalable concentrating solar power (CSP) technology, has been contracted by Aalborg CSP A/S (Aalborg, Denmark) to provide a solar collector system (SCS) product in support of a recently announced commercial expansion of Sundrop Farms’ greenhouse facility in Port Augusta, South Australia. Construction of the expansion facility begins this month and is due for completion in 2016.

Los Angeles, California - A Los Angeles-area physician whose referrals led to more than $1.7 million in fraudulent Medicare billings was sentenced this afternoon to 24 months in federal prison for his role in a conspiracy to defraud Medicare related to medically unnecessary power wheelchairs and other durable medical equipment.
