Washington, DC - Hazardous foods or potentially contaminated products can expose Americans to foodborne illness that can sometimes be life threatening. Our nation depends on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to ensure that the foods they buy are safe. Therefore, when issues arise that would put consumers at risk, we won’t hesitate to mandate the removal of a product from the market using the full extent of our authorities. It’s our responsibility. And it’s critical to our mission to ensure the safety of Americans.

Washington, DC - We welcome the International Statement on Agricultural Applications of Precision Biotechnology. Precision biotechnology innovations, such as gene editing, will help our farmers and ranchers and others around the world to increase productivity and promote plant and animal health. The statement was delivered at the World Trade Organization Committee on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures meetings in Geneva, Switzerland November 1-2 and reaffirms science-based approaches in agriculture.

Washington, DC - The crisis of opioid addiction is an issue of great concern for our nation. Addressing it is a public health priority for the FDA. The agency is taking new steps to more actively confront this crisis, while also paying careful attention to the needs of patients and physicians managing pain. As part of these considerations, there’s been an important and robust public debate leading up to the regulatory decision on Dsuvia that merits a response. I want to take this opportunity to address some of the concerns that were raised, and more broadly, how I believe the FDA should consider the approval of new opioid pain medications that can help fill targeted medical needs.

Washington, DC - At the request of the Federal Trade Commission, a federal judge temporarily shut down a Florida-based operation that allegedly collected more than $100 million by preying on Americans in search of health insurance, selling these consumers worthless plans that left tens of thousands of people uninsured. Many of these consumers have incurred substantial medical expenses and have been stuck with thousands of dollars in unpaid medical bills.

Los Angeles, California - On September 27th, 2018, FBI Assistant Director in Charge of the Los Angeles Field Office Paul D. Delacourt, and Chief Michel Moore of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), announced the addition of alleged sexual predator, Greg Alyn Carlson, to the FBI’s list of Ten Most Wanted Fugitives. Today, November 2, 2018, officials are reporting a recently confirmed sighting of Carlson. This information is being shared with the public in order to generate tips that lead to Carlson’s arrest. A reward of up to $100,000 is being offered in exchange for information leading to the arrest of Carlson.
