Santa, Ana, California - An Orange County man has pleaded guilty to a federal wire fraud offense and admitted operating a $6 million scheme that bilked investors who were promised large profits from the resale of tickets to high-profile sporting events, including the Super Bowl and the World Cup.

Fresno, California - John Thomas Terrence, 75, of Marina del Rey, pleaded guilty last Monday to health care fraud involving a scheme to defraud the California workers’ compensation insurance system, U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced.

Los Angeles, California - Two local physicians were indicted by a federal Grand Jury Thursday as part of Operation “Spinal Cap,” which targeted a long-running health care fraud scheme that generated nearly $1 billion in fraudulent claims to the federal government, the state of California, and private insurers. The scheme involved more than $40 million in illegal kickbacks paid to doctors and other medical professionals in exchange for referring thousands of patients who received surgeries and other services at Pacific Hospital.

Sacramento, California - California Attorney General Xavier Becerra was Wednesday granted a motion to dismiss without prejudice in California v. Trump, a case which was initiated after the Trump Administration’s abrupt decision in October 2017 to stop healthcare subsidy payments required by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). These mandatory cost-sharing reduction payments, also known as CSRs, help lower out-of-pocket costs for individuals with incomes up to $30,350 and families of four with incomes up to $62,750.

Los Angeles, California - Three owners and/or managers of Los Angeles, California-area foreclosure rescue companies, Dorothy Matsuba, Jamie Matsuba, and Thomas Matsuba, were sentenced to 240, 135, and 168 months in prison today for their roles in a foreclosure rescue scheme, respectively.

Sacramento, California - California Attorney General Xavier Becerra Tuesday issued the following statement on the news that the Arvin City Council passed by a 3-0 vote an ordinance that will require new oil and gas operations to be more protective of public health and safety. As part of the environmental justice work being carried out by the California Department of Justice, Attorney General Becerra filed his strong support for the ordinance on June 8, 2018, making clear that it was a lawful exercise of the City of Arvin’s authority.
