Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced that he has signed the following bills:

The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.

Sacramento, California - The American Heart Association expressed deep concerns with the passage of Assembly Bill 1838 today in California that prevents local communities in the state from adopting any new local sugary drink taxes for the next 12 years and undermines the ability of California residents and local elected officials to make decisions on behalf of their own communities. The bill—a last-minute, backroom deal negotiated and written in secret by beverage industry lobbyists and their allies—is a significant step backwards in the ongoing effort to reduce overconsumption of sugary drinks.

San Diego, California - Clayton Marlow Anderson, Jr., a former attorney based in La Mesa, California before his disbarment in 2015, pled guilty Tuesday to defrauding investors and clients of over a million dollars.  Anderson also admitted to money laundering in connection with his fraud scheme, known alternatively as the “Clayton M. Anderson Monthly Income Plan”, “Anderson Plan”, or “A-Plan.”

Los Angeles, California - A South Los Angeles man who made a series of online threats to kill law enforcement personnel and others at the Los Angeles Superior Court’s Inglewood Courthouse, a nearby school, and a private business pled guilty Monday to a federal offense of making online threats.

Los Angeles, California - A California man was arrested in Los Angeles on charges of threatening to kill the family of Ajit Pai, Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, for Pai’s role in repealing regulations relating to net neutrality.
