Calexico, California - On Tuesday, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Calexico station apprehended a dangerous Mara Salvatrucha gang member attempting to make an illegal entry into the United States.
Border Patrol agents observed the man, later identified as Jose Perez-Santos, a 31-year-old Salvadoran national, as he entered the United States illegally from Mexico at around 10:45 p.m. Agents arrested Perez without incident approximately 3 miles west of the downtown Calexico Port of Entry.
Perez was transported to the Calexico Border Patrol station, where it was revealed he was an active member of the “MS-13” criminal gang out of El Salvador, and attempting to travel to Sacramento, Calif. Perez has a prior deportation ordered by an Immigration Judge and was removed from the United States on May 26, 2010.
Perez is in Border Patrol custody pending prosecution charges for re-entry after being previously removed from the United States.
