Calexico, California - On Sunday evening, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Calexico Border Patrol station arrested three men attempting to smuggle 184.2 pounds of marijuana into the United States.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:51 p.m., when an agent observed five men illegally enter the United States from Mexico east of the Calexico Port of Entry and walk north towards Interstate 8. Four of the men had large bundles strapped to their backs.

Moments after reaching Interstate 8, the men loaded the four bundles into a Plymouth Voyager that had stopped near them and two of the men boarded the vehicle, the remaining individuals ran back to Mexico. As the Plymouth drove away from the area Border Patrol agents positioned nearby safely disabled the vehicle with a controlled tire deflation device. Agents approached the vehicle and arrested the male driver, a United States Citizen and two male passengers, both citizens of Mexico.

The bundles of marijuana weighed a total of 184.2 pounds and have an estimated street value of $147,357.

The driver, passengers, vehicle and marijuana were turned over to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.
