Customs and Border Protection Agents Arrest Man with Loaded Handgun

Pine Valley, California - U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents arrested an armed U.S. citizen on Friday at the Interstate 8 checkpoint.

At approximately 6 p.m., a 27-year-old male arrived at the Pine Valley checkpoint driving a 1994 Toyota Corolla. A canine performed a cursory inspection of the vehicle and alerted as the man entered the primary inspection area. Agents stopped the vehicle and questioned the man, who indicated that he was in the process of moving to San Diego. Agents referred the man for a secondary inspection. A search of the vehicle revealed a small amount of marijuana in the back seat and a loaded .40 caliber Taurus handgun with one round in the chamber and 14 rounds in the magazine. Agents searched the man and discovered two concealed knives.

The suspect was arrested for the possession of a controlled substance. The man and all evidence were turned over to Homeland Security Investigations for Federal prosecution.
