Long Beach, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. Monday issued the following statement regarding the death of Long Beach Fire Department Fire Captain David Rosa:

“It was with great sadness that Anne and I learned Fire Captain David Rosa passed away today while protecting the residents of a retirement home. Our deepest condolences go out to Captain Rosa’s family, friends and the entire Long Beach Fire Department as they mourn his tragic death.”

Captain Rosa, 45, died today from a shooting injury he sustained while responding to a call at a Long Beach retirement facility.

Captain Rosa was a 17-year veteran of the Long Beach Fire Department and served as captain of Station 10 for more than six years. He is survived by his wife, Lynley, and sons Alec, 25, and Samuel, 16.

In honor of Captain Rosa, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
