Sacramento, California - Again taking action to protect diversity and inclusion, Governor Gavin Newsom today signed Senate Bill 188 to make California the first state in the nation to ban racial discrimination based on natural hair.

Oakland, California - Eugene Latrell McNeely, aka Sleepy, aka Slim Sleep da Mac, pleaded guilty in federal court to transportation of a minor with intent to prostitute, announced United States Attorney David L. Anderson and Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge John F. Bennett. The Honorable James Donato, U.S. District Judge, accepted the plea.

San Francisco, California - Former San Francisco Deputy Sheriff April Myres was convicted Wednesday by a federal jury of mail and wire fraud, announced United States Attorney David L. Anderson and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Special Agent in Charge John F. Bennett. The guilty verdict followed an eight-day jury trial before the Honorable Richard Seeborg, U.S. District Judge.

Sacramento, California - An indictment was unsealed in federal court in the Eastern District of California following the arrests of Nery A. Martinez Vasquez, 50, and Maura N. Martinez, 50, of Shasta Lake, California. The indictment charges the defendants with conspiracy, forced labor, and alien harboring for financial gain. Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott of the Eastern District of California, and Special Agent in Charge Sean Ragan of the FBI’s Sacramento Division made the announcement.
