FTC Consent Order Protects Competition in Ductile Iron Pipe Industry

Washington, DC - Fortiline, LLC, a company that distributes ductile iron pipe, fittings and accessories throughout much of the United States, has agreed to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that it violated federal antitrust law by inviting a competitor to raise and fix prices. This is the first case where the FTC has challenged an invitation to collude by a firm that is both a direct competitor with, and a distributor for, the invitee.

Washington, DC - In June, the Commission announced its first settlement with a mobile advertising network, InMobi. Among other things, the Commission’s complaint challenges the company’s location tracking practices. In this post, we explain the mechanism that the Commission alleges InMobi used to track users’ location without permission, and discuss technical steps that mobile operating systems have taken to try to address this practice.

During a ceremony, Monday, with San Diego Zoo Global staff, representatives from Zoos Victoria in Melbourne and the Taronga Conservation Society Australia in Sydney were presented with the San Diego Zoo Global 2016 Conservation Partners Medal, shining a light on their efforts in wildlife conservation research projects, public education and strict animal welfare standards.

However, I steered away from pursuing science beyond high school because there was too much math involved (and “MATH,” a four-letter word if ever I saw one, and I never really got along). As a result, much of my teaching experience has centered around things that came more naturally to me. In fact, though this will be my 11th year teaching, it is only my third year teaching science.
