Washington, DC - Secretary of State John Kerry: "On behalf of President Obama and the American people, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the people of Denmark on the 167th anniversary of the adoption of your constitution on June 5.

"The United States and Denmark are leaders and partners in developing innovative solutions to pressing regional and global challenges. As President Obama and I reaffirmed with Prime Minister Rasmussen at the U.S.-Nordic Leaders’ Summit in May, our countries share responsibility to protect the environment and ensure sustainable development in the Arctic and beyond. We are both committed to building a more secure and prosperous world for ourselves, our children and grandchildren. We are each playing vital roles in expanding transatlantic trade, countering violent extremism, providing relief to vulnerable communities in the wake of natural disasters, and leading the worldwide response to climate change.

"As NATO Allies, our cooperation is essential to international stability and the rule of law, and I look forward to continuing our nations’ work together in the Nordic region and around the world.

"On this special day, I wish all of the citizens of Denmark a year of peace and prosperity."
