Washington, DC - Ambassador Arnold Chacon was sworn in on Monday, December 22nd as Director General of the Foreign Service and Director of Human Resources.

A career member of the Foreign Service for 33 years, he was U.S. Ambassador to Guatemala from August 2011–March 2014. From 2008–2011, he served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Madrid, Spain and before that as Deputy Executive Secretary in the Secretary’s Executive Secretariat. He has also served at our missions in Honduras, Mexico, Chile, Italy, Peru, and Ecuador, as well as Washington, D.C. and USUN New York.

Director General Chacon is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder. His wife, Alida Chacon, is also a member of the U.S. Foreign Service. They have three children.
