Austin, Texas - Austin used to be known for Armadillo World Headquarters and the Stallion Drive-In on North Lamar that served a $4.99 chicken fried steak the size of a manhole cover. But the talk now is tech with a burgeoning industry that manages to keep the city both weird and wired. That’s why the FTC’s Start with Security program is on the road again on November 5th – this time to Austin.

Start with Security panels will feature security experts from established tech companies and from Austin-based businesses that went from neighborhood to national in just a few years.

FTC Commissioner Terrell McSweeny will open the event. Speakers will address how startups can build a culture of security, scale security testing during periods of rapid growth, effectively address vulnerabilities, and move past bug hunting to embrace key security features. In addition, Commissioner McSweeny will host a fireside chat with Venu Shamapant, co-founder of venture capital firm LiveOak Venture Partners, to discuss security issues facing startups.

The FTC is sponsoring Start with Security with the University of Texas Robert S. Strauss Center and the Center for Identity. The event begins at 9:30 at UT’s AT&T Conference Center, 1900 University Avenue in Austin. It’s free and open to the public. Interested in attending? Please pre-register.

The Austin event follows up on the inaugural Start with Security conference in San Francisco on September 9th. More events are in the works in coming months.
