Imperial, California - The dog days of summer are here and for the younger people among us it is a time for fun in the sun, but for older folks it's a dangerous time of the year, says the Association of Mature American Citizens.

It's okay to enjoy a walk or a picnic in the outdoors when the weather is mild and dry.  But when it's steamy outside you are better off engaging in indoor activities, preferably in a space that's climate controlled for comfort.  Check in with your doctor if you experience symptoms such as weakness, wooziness or cramping, suggests AMAC.

And, make sure you drink lots of water to avoid dehydration.
