Imperial, California - There's no fool like an old fool, the saying goes, and the proof is in the fact that seniors have become a prime target for conmen, reports the Association of Mature American Citizens.

So when a so-called IRS agent comes a calling, with a demand for back taxes that you allegedly owe, just brush him off.  Despite the fact that the Internal Revenue Service doesn't work that way, the scam is one of the most pervasive and effective con games, bilking unsuspecting seniors out of millions of dollars each year.

Then there is the guy or gal who calls a mark purporting to be a health care provider who needs your Social Security number and other personal information.  Don't fall for it, says AMAC.  These identity thieves use the info for a variety of illegal purposes, including Medicare fraud.

The moral of this story is "don't be so ready to fork over money or personal details of your life to just anybody; a little doubt can go a long way toward protecting yourself from fraudsters."
