Washington, DC - Secretary of State John Kerry will announce the release of the Department of State’s “To Walk the Earth in Safety,” a report summarizing the accomplishments of the U.S. Conventional Weapons Destruction Program, at 10 a.m. on December 8 in the Department’s Delegates Lounge.

The Secretary will be joined by Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Puneet Talwar. Also attending will be representatives from several humanitarian demining organizations who implement U.S. Conventional Weapons Destruction programs worldwide, including Golden West Humanitarian Foundation, The HALO Trust, International Mapping and Mine Action Program, MAG International, and James Madison University Center for International Stabilization and Recovery.

In addition, the event will include a demonstration by a mine detection dog courtesy of the Marshall Legacy Institute.

For more than 20 years, the United States has led the international donor community in promoting peace and security worldwide by partnering with nations to address humanitarian hazards from landmines and unexploded ordnance in post-conflict countries, as well as to reduce the availability of excess, loosely-secured, or otherwise at-risk weapons and ordnance.
