Imperial, California - Imperial County Sheriff’s Office, and Imperial Valley College (IVC), has successfully conducted its first Welding 100 and Art 120 classes for the IVC fall semester. The Courses are offered to inmates who are low-risk offenders desiring to better themselves while in custody.

The Welding 100 class offered is split between lectures at the Herbert Hughes Correctional Center (H.H.C.C) and practical application with equipment at the IVC Industrial Technology department. Students develop the theory and knowledge base to safely and properly practice welding techniques in in Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, and Oxy –Fuel Welding and Cutting.   15 Students have successfully completed the course for the IVC Fall Semester.

The Art 120 course is a co-ed class offered at H.H.C.C where students are taught to draw from observation as an essential means of expression. The focus of the class is contour line drawing, mass and line gesture and value structure in creating the illusion of form.  Eleven students have successfully completed the Course for the IVC Fall semester.

The Sheriff’s Office is proud to have been able to guide and aid these men and women in their journey to become productive members of society and take positive action is securing a better future for their family and themselves.
