Calexico, California - Border Patrol agents assigned to El Centro Sector arrested a gang member Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:51 a.m., after agents assigned to the Calexico Station arrested a man near half a mile east of the Calexico West Port of Entry for suspected illegal entry.  Agents determined the man was a citizen of Mexico illegally present in the United States.

Border Patrol agents conducted record checks, which revealed 32-year-old, Hugo Juarez-Hernandez, had a previous criminal record.  In 2005, Juarez was convicted for use of a firearm in a felony robbery and was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Additionally, Juarez was removed from the United States on Mar. 13, 2018.

Juarez admitted to being a member of the Sureños 13 gang out of the city of Gardena and will be held pending criminal prosecution.
