Virginia Beach, Virginia - Eighteen intelligence specialists (IS) graduated from the 12-week Intelligence Specialist “A” school at Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) Virginia Beach, October 12.
IWTC Virginia Beach has convened 21 IS courses in the last year and graduated 480 students.
Over 12 weeks of training, the students proceed through a demanding curriculum comprised of basic intelligence, information warfare, and information technology. The curriculum directly supports Navy requirements for trained and ready intelligence professionals. The curriculum culminates in a final exercise comprised of in-depth critical thinking and analysis, as well as a rigorous briefing schedule ultimately providing real-world indications and warnings across several areas of responsibility. Core intelligence disciplines taught during the course develop the essential skills Sailors need to continue to advanced training schools, and prepare them for rigorous duties in the fleet.
“This course is very demanding and stressful but class 18-210 was ready to answer that challenge,” said Intelligence Specialist 2nd Class Tyler Langley, an IS “A” school Instructor IWTC Virginia Beach. The past 12 weeks have prepared them for the completion of their final exercise and, furthermore, the fleet. Congratulations on your completion of IS ‘A’ school and good luck with your follow-on schools and fleet assignments."
Seaman Nicole Baker received the Personal Excellence Award for her highly motivated efforts towards academics, commendatory involvement within the course, and positive influence on her peers.
“I really enjoyed the real-world information provided in order to appropriately portray significant events in the fleet,” said Baker. “I found IS ‘A’ school challenging. However, I believe it was ultimately worth it."
“Intelligence Specialist ‘A’ school is the foundational course for our intelligence specialists,” said Cmdr. Andrew Boyden, commanding officer IWTC Virginia Beach. “This training crucible plays a huge role in preparing them for the fleet, and I’m continually impressed by the quality of graduates and the excellence our team is pushing out to the fleet.”
IWTC Virginia Beach currently offers 65 courses of instruction in information technology, cryptology, and intelligence with an instructor and support staff of 280 military, civilian, and contract members who train over 6,400 students every year at five training sites in the Hampton Roads area. It is one of four school houses for Center for Information Warfare Training and also oversees learning sites at Jacksonville and Mayport, Florida; Kings Bay, Georgia; and Groton, Connecticut to continue aligning IW community training.
The Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) delivers trained information warfare professionals to the Navy and joint services, enabling optimal performance of information warfare across the full spectrum of military operations.
