Sacramento, California - Low-interest federal disaster loans are available to California residents and business owners affected by the severe storms and flooding that occurred December 11‑12, 2014, U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet announced today. SBA acted under its own authority to declare a disaster in response to a request SBA received from Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr.’s designated representative, Mark S. Ghilarducci, Director of the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, on December 24.

Washington, DC - Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Heather Higginbottom will travel to California January 8-9 to attend the U.S. Global Development Lab Advisory Group Board Meeting with USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah, and participate in technology outreach meetings at Google and Andreessen Horowitz. The Lab seeks to advance a science and technology-based approach to development, creating a new global marketplace of innovations to help end extreme poverty by 2030.

Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the appointment of Camille Wagner as legislative affairs secretary in the Office of the Governor, replacing Gareth Elliott, who has served in that role since 2011. Elliott will pursue opportunities in the private sector, and last week was appointed to the University of California Board of Regents by the Governor.

Pasadena, California - Over the last several years I have been honored to receive invitations from the California Cut Flower Commission to spend time with them at the Tournament of Roses, and I was fortunate to be able to visit Pasadena again last week for the annual festivities. The Commission has developed partnerships with the Buy California Marketing Agreement (CA Grown), the floral company FTD, and Cal Poly (both the SLO and Pomona campuses) to place floats in the Rose Parade consisting of California-grown flowers!
