Sacramento, California - Governor Gavin Newsom issued the following statement on a major investigation by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) of utility-led Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS):

Sacramento, California - Fairgrounds in Sonoma, Marin, Napa, Mendocino and Alameda counties, as well as the California state fairgrounds in Sacramento, are offering emergency shelter to people and animals in the path of the Kincade Fire. Nearly 200,000 people have been under evacuation orders. More than 1,600 of them are sheltered at fairgrounds.

Sacramento, California - Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that the state has secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help ensure the availability of resources to fight the Getty Fire burning in Los Angeles County, which has threatened homes and caused the evacuation of residents.

San Jose, California - South Bay doctor Venkat Aachi was sentenced to 24 months in prison for health care fraud and for distributing hydrocodone outside the scope of his professional practice and without a legitimate medical need, announced United States Attorney David L. Anderson, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent in Charge Chris Nielsen, Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge John F. Bennett, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (HHS-OIG) Special Agent in Charge Steven J. Ryan, and the California Department of Justice Bureau of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse (BMFEA).  

Sacramento, California - Sammy Davis Dewitt Morgan, 38, of Vallejo, was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge John A. Mendez to 12 years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced.

Petaluma, California - As communities across the state endangered by wildfire are evacuated amid high winds, Governor Gavin Newsom will meet with impacted residents at an evacuation center in Petaluma today.
