San Diego, California - From the producers of Animal Planet’s “The Zoo” and “The Aquarium” comes “The Zoo: San Diego”- is an all-new television series that provides Animal Planet’s global audiences with a revealing, behind-the-scenes look at animal care at the San Diego Zoo, San Diego Zoo Safari Park and San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research. Animal Planet audiences will get a rare opportunity to follow the animal care teams, including keepers, veterinarians and scientists of San Diego Zoo Global, who are working at the forefront of wildlife conservation.

The series will debut with a special two-hour season premiere, and Animal Planet audiences will be introduced to a wide range of species. In Episode 1, “Welcome to Our World,” a baby klipspringer is born at the San Diego Zoo on one of the coldest nights of the year, and is miraculously nursed back to health. But will his mother accept him when he returns home? Also in this episode, Zoo reptile keepers and vet staff work together to unravel the mystery of why rare Mang Mountain pit vipers are having spinal issues; the California condor team at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park goes to unbelievable lengths to save this highly endangered species; and the Safari Park celebrates Joanne the gorilla’s fifth birthday.

In the second hour of the debut, in the episode “New Day for an Old Tortoise,” audiences will watch what happens when Jaws the Galápagos tortoise isn’t feeling well, and the Zoo staff works to bring him “out of his shell.” Also, Hunter the koala is ready for a mate, but are the female koalas ready for Hunter? And at the Safari Park, for the first time, not one but two baby giraffe calves need to be hand-reared simultaneously. Will they also become bosom buddies?

Saturday, Aug. 10, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The following week, the series will move to its regular time of 9 p.m. ET/PT.
