Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today issued a proclamation declaring October, 2018 as “California Redwoods Month” in the State of California.
PROCLAMATION
California is home to the most spectacular forests in the world, where the tallest, largest and among the oldest living trees have grown for millennia. Our California Redwood forests are a globally significant treasure and a quintessential symbol of the Golden State.
Redwood forests provide critical refuge and habitat for rare species, safeguard clean water and store climate-altering carbon dioxide. Redwoods also bring tremendous economic benefit to California, with more than 100 local, state and federal redwood parks and reserves drawing 31 million visitors annually.
This month, I invite all Californians to visit Coast Redwood and Giant Sequoia parks and reserves and support organizations working to ensure a healthy future for our redwood forests.
NOW THEREFORE I, EDMUND G. BROWN JR., Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim October, 2018, as “California Redwoods Month.”
