Washington, DC - The Energy Department launched the American-Made Solar Prize, a $3 million prize competition that aims to spur the next wave of solar technology innovations in the United States. The release of the contest rules marks the official kickoff of the competition.

Entrepreneurial individuals and teams will compete in three successive and increasingly rewarding prize contests designed to rapidly transform innovative ideas into prototypes ready for industry testing. These competitors will have access to a growing network of mentors and resources including: national labs, incubators, investors, and seasoned industry experts who will provide strategic support throughout the Solar Prize.

How to Participate:

  • Become a Competitor: U.S.-based solar innovators, researchers, students and faculty, startups, and teams with game-changing ideas can compete in the program’s Ready!, Set!, and Go! Contests. Submit a concept to participate in the Ready! Contest.
  • Become a Connector: Members of the American-Made Network support competitors with expert advice and are eligible to win performance payments based on the success of competitors. Apply to be a Connector to support competitors or to be a Power Connector to help sustain and grow the program.
  • Submit Your Business Challenge: Participate in Ideation by submitting relevant business challenges competitors can solve and potential solutions competitors can explore. Learn more about Ideation.
