Washington, DC - Senior officials of the United States and the Republic of Djibouti Governments met to launch the inaugural U.S.-Djibouti Binational Forum, a key outcome of the historic May 5, 2014, White House meeting between U.S. President Obama and Djiboutian President Guelleh. Deputy Secretary Blinken welcomed the Djiboutian delegation and opened the Binational Forum. The senior-level delegations addressed a range of important issues including security cooperation, economic development, energy exploration, and education.

Ugga Ugga, Bam Bam, and Grunt Grunt are sitting around the campfire roasting a goat or whatnot and going over the events of the day. Grunt Grunt notes that the watering hole is drying up and game are becoming scarce. Bam Bam wonders whether they have offended the gods in some way. They retire for the night, mulling things over. The next morning they hit upon the idea of human sacrifice as a way of appeasing the gods, and that night there are only two guys sitting around the campfire. Ugga Ugga has taken one for the team. The food supply stretches farther and all is well.

Washington, DC - To celebrate the second annual World Wildlife Day, Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Catherine Novelli will host a Google+ Hangout March 3 on the subject of combating wildlife trafficking. The Under Secretary will be joined by prominent African and Asian leaders from several non-governmental environmental organizations. Peter Knights, Executive Director of WildAid, will moderate the discussion and panelists will include: Paula Kahumbu, Executive Director of Wildlife Direct; Nhi Thoi, Rhino Project Lead for CHANGE; and Grace Ge Gabriel, Asia Regional Director of the International Fund for Animal Welfare.
Escondido, California - San Diego Zoo Safari Park animal care staff gently unpacked 130 butterfly pupae on Thursday, February 26. The pupae, living butterfly cocoons, are an endangered species from Indonesia. The insects were confiscated by U.S. Fish & Wildlife officials from a shipment sent into the United States.
