Washington, DC - NIST is releasing a guide that describes procedures for documenting and populating test data on a mobile device before testing a mobile forensic tool—the recovery and interpretation of data found on digital devices is often part of a criminal or civil investigation. Draft NIST Special Publication (SP) 800-202, Quick Start Guide for Populating Mobile Test Devices, is meant to be used with Federated Testing, an expansion of the Computer Forensics Tool Testing (CFTT) Program at NIST, which provides digital forensics investigators and labs with test materials for forensic tool testing. The goal of Federated Testing is to help digital forensics investigators to test tools used in their labs and to enable sharing of test results within the digital forensics community.

Washington, DC - Here’s the thing about nectar. It can be sweet, but sticky. People who paid Palo Alto-based Nectar Brand LLC for mattresses labeled “Designed and Assembled in the USA” thought they were getting a sweet deal. In fact, buyers were stuck with mattresses imported from China, already completed. The company, which also uses the names Nectar Sleep and DreamCloud, performed no assembly operations in the United States. Thus, the FTC’s complaint alleges that the company’s “Assembled in USA” claim is deceptive.

Continue for just a few more kilometers and you’ll cross over a second historic line: the Inch Line (sometimes called the Inch Lines, for reasons explained below). Contrary to its diminutive name, this line stretches more than 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles) from Texas to New Jersey. Constructed during World War II, it inspired a quip that illustrates its importance: “The war was won by an Inch.”
