Sacramento, California - Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella), Chairman of the Joint Committee on Climate Change Policies brought together both the Senate Committee on Energy, Utilities and Communications and the Assembly Committee on Utilities and Energy for a collaborative hearing on efforts to decarbonize the electric grid. This joint hearing created a platform for the Legislature and stakeholders to engage in a comprehensive discussion about our state’s long-term energy goals.

Washington, DC - Like the three sides of a triangle, ROSCA – the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act – has three basic compliance requirements for online sellers who enroll consumers in continuity plans, often known as negative options. The law bans online negative options unless the seller: 1) clearly discloses all material terms of the deal before obtaining a consumer’s billing information; 2) gets the consumer’s express informed consent before making the charge; and 3) provides a simple mechanism for stopping recurring charges. An FTC lawsuit alleges that online negative options used by San Diego-based Triangle Media Corporation didn’t give consumers a square deal.

Sacramento, California - The Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Lockeford Plant Materials Center conducts trials year-round to find plants and mixes that producers can successfully use to improve their soils. Lockeford PMC Manager Margaret Smither-Kopperl talked about the multiple benefits cover crops can have and how they are developing budget-friendly mixes for different producers. Agronomist Valerie Bullard showed results from a nationwide-wide trial that is looking at what varieties grow the best in specific regions and how some plants can source nitrogen for your soil.
