Medical Doctor Convicted in Federal Court of Causing Opioid Overdose Death of a Patient

Brooklyn, New York - A federal jury in Brooklyn Wednesday, following two weeks of trial, convicted Dr. Martin Tesher of 10 counts of unlawful distribution of oxycodone without legitimate medical purpose to five patients, one of whom died as a result two days after his last visit with the defendant. When sentenced by United States District Judge Raymond J. Dearie, Dr. Tesher faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment and a maximum of life in prison.

Sacramento, California - California Attorney General Xavier Becerra was Wednesday granted a motion to dismiss without prejudice in California v. Trump, a case which was initiated after the Trump Administration’s abrupt decision in October 2017 to stop healthcare subsidy payments required by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). These mandatory cost-sharing reduction payments, also known as CSRs, help lower out-of-pocket costs for individuals with incomes up to $30,350 and families of four with incomes up to $62,750.
