American Cancer Society Awards New Research and Training Grants

Atlanta, Georgia - The American Cancer Society, the largest non-government, not-for-profit funding source of cancer research in the United States, has approved funding for 74 research and training grants totaling $39,106,261 in the second of two grant cycles for 2018. The grants will fund investigators at 53 institutions across the United States; 63 are new grants while 11 are renewals of previous grants. Five grants are Mission Boost Grants, representing a new ACS funding initiative that invests in innovative, high risk, high reward, patient-oriented projects. All the grants go into effect January 1, 2019.

New York - More than three in four U.S. employees (76 percent) have dealt with issues negatively affecting their mental health according to new survey results. Almost all employees (96%) agree that mental health is as important as physical health, according to a nationwide survey commissioned by the American Heart Association CEO Roundtable.

Washington, DC - The American Red Cross is contributing $500,000 towards relief efforts being carried out by local and global Red Cross Red Crescent teams after a deadly earthquake and tsunami hit the Indonesian province of Central Sulawesi. These funds are in addition to $500,000 previously committed by the American Red Cross in the aftermath of destructive earthquakes and aftershocks—taking place over the past two months—that rocked the island of Lombok.
