Washington, DC - As we continue to address the troubling epidemic of youth e-cigarette use, we’ve committed to employing a number of tools as part of our Youth Tobacco Prevention Plan to ensure no tobacco products are being marketed to, sold to, or used by kids. We’ve taken a series of escalating enforcement actions. We’ve launched public education campaigns to warn youth about the dangers of e-cigarette and other tobacco product use. And most recently, we advanced new policies aimed at preventing youth access to, and appeal of, flavored tobacco products, including e-cigarettes and cigars.
Justice Department Settles Immigration-Related Discrimination Claim Against Housing Authority in Texas

Victoria, Texas - The Justice Department today announced that it has reached a settlement agreement with the Housing Authority of Victoria, Texas (Housing Authority). The settlement resolves a complaint that the Housing Authority discriminated against a lawful permanent resident when it rejected his valid employment documents and fired him in violation of the anti-discrimination provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). While it is illegal under the INA for employers to knowingly hire individuals without work authorization, it is also illegal under that law for employers to discriminate against lawful permanent residents, among other work-authorized immigrants, in the hiring process.

Houston, Texas - A retired Kansas native, who was residing in Panama, was sentenced Friday to 210 months in prison, for use of sexually explicit depictions of a minor for importation into the United States, announced Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division and U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Patrick of the Southern District of Texas.
