Washington, DC - Today, the U.S. Department of Energy announced $50 million for new and innovative research of technologies for trucks, off-road vehicles, and the fuels that power them. Funded through the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), these selections highlight the DOE’s priorities in gaseous fuels research, including natural gas, biopower, and hydrogen; heavy-duty freight electrification; hydrogen infrastructure and fuel cell technologies for heavy-duty applications; and energy efficient off-road vehicles.

Washington, DC - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration Monday issued a revised draft guidance, Rare Pediatric Disease Priority Review Vouchers – Guidance for Industry. The revised draft guidance incorporates public comments received on the initial draft and provides FDA’s thinking regarding the provisions of the Advancing Hope Act of 2016, which updated the definition of a rare pediatrics disease as one that is a rare disease and one where the disease is serious or life-threatening with the serious or life-threatening manifestations primarily affecting individuals from age zero to 18.

El Centro, California - On Sunday, July 28, 3:15 AM, El Centro Police Department Police Officers were dispatched to an alarm activation at a business located on the 600 block of Wake Avenue. Officers arrived on scene within a minute of the call being dispatched and found the front window had been smashed out. Evidence at the scene indicated something heavy had been dragged from the store. Officers suspected an ATM was taken. The business owner confirmed that someone had broken into his store and confirmed to officers that an ATM machine was taken.

Washington, DC - The Library of Congress has restored and made available online the Gandhara Scroll, a manuscript dating back to around the first century B.C., that offers insight into early Buddhist history. The scroll is one of the world’s oldest Buddhist manuscripts.
