California Puts Money Back Into the Pockets of Millions of Working Californians

Sacramento, California - Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that over $1 billion has gone back into the pockets of more than 3.6 million working Californians and their families through the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) and Young Child Tax Credit (YCTC). He also announced that Californians will get the raise they deserve, by declining to use his authority to suspend the scheduled minimum wage increase in 2021, up to $14 per hour.

El Centro, California - After an investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD), Rogar Manufacturing – a cable and wire harness manufacturer in San Jose, California – will pay $41,214 in back wages to 17 employees for wrongly denying the employees’ requests for paid sick leave for coronavirus-related reasons. The employer’s action resulted in a violation of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA).

Aquarium of the Pacific Relaunches Magellanic Penguin Encounters

Long Beach, California - The Aquarium of the Pacific is now offering its popular Animal Encounter program with Magellanic penguins. Participants will have the chance to sit next to a penguin as it waddles around outside the June Keyes Penguin Habitat before the Aquarium opens to the public in the morning. An Aquarium educator will accompany participants and teach them about the Aquarium’s penguins, where this species lives in the wild, what they eat, and how the Aquarium cares for them. Participants are encouraged to bring their camera or phone to take photos.
