Washington, DC - The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is offering up to $1 million in grants to establish up to eight Regional Alliances and Multistakeholder Partnerships to Stimulate (RAMPS) cybersecurity education and workforce development. As part of the Department of Commerce’s “Skills for Business” initiative that has made job-driven training a priority, RAMPS will support the NIST-led National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE).

Targeted antibiotic is easier on the gut microbiome

Memphis, Tennessee - A targeted antibiotic designed for treatment of staph infections caused fewer changes to the gut microbiome of mice than did common broad-spectrum antibiotics. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital scientists led the study, which provides the first evidence that a pathogen-selective approach to antibiotic development minimizes disruption of the gut microbiome that leaves patients at a risk for a variety of metabolic and immune disorders.

Imperial, California - It’s not difficult to spot Bobo’s red service dog vest. Bobo serves as Danielle “Dani” Kneisly’s seizure assistance dog, and the two are constantly by each other’s sides. However, it is important to look beyond the vest and fully understand the help he brings to 20-year-old Kneisly, her family and those around her. Kneisly has a condition called isolated pachygyria, a neurological brain disorder, which causes recurrent seizures.
