Physicists create first metamaterial with rewritable magnetic ordering

West Lafayette, Indiana - University of Notre Dame Visiting Research Assistant Professor Yong-Lei Wang and his collaborators have produced the first rewriteable, artificial “magnetic charge ice.” The research, described in a paper published May 20, 2016, in the journal Science, shows strong potential for technological applications from data storage and memory to reprogrammable magnonics to spintronics. Magnetic charge ice has potential to allow for smaller, more powerful computers in the future.

FDA approves Zinbryta to treat multiple sclerosis

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration Friday approved Zinbryta (daclizumab) for the treatment of adults with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS). Zinbryta is a long-acting injection that is self- administered by the patient monthly.
New NIH-EPA research centers to study environmental health disparities

Washington, DC - The National Institutes of Health has partnered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to fund five new research centers to improve health in communities overburdened by pollution and other environmental factors that contribute to health disparities. Within each center, scientists will partner with community organizations to study these concerns and develop culturally appropriate ways to reduce exposure to harmful environmental conditions.
