San Diego, California - More than 100 local mountain yellow-legged frogs (MYLF) will be making the San Bernardino Mountains their home after San Diego Zoo Global and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reintroduced the large group into the mountainous habitat—increasing the wild population of an endangered species that, in some areas, is on the brink of being extirpated.

Sacramento, California - A great meeting late Friday with Vietnam Vice Minister Tran Thanh Nam and his delegation. They were in California for farm visits, time with UC Davis and to continue discussions on climate smart agriculture that began during my visit to Vietnam in April. Vietnam is also suffering from a drought and the group was very impressed with our on-farm water efficient drop and sub-surface micro-drip technologies. We both agreed it would be spectacular to be able to foster farmer-to-farmer exchanges!
Orangutans Have a Smashing Good Time with Icy Birthday Cake on San Diego Zoo’s 100th Birthday

San Diego, California - The orangutans at the San Diego Zoo were given a tiered ice cake Sunday, as one of the many activities celebrating the Zoo’s 100th birthday. But by the time guests made their way from the entrance to the orangutan exhibit, the cake was already smashed and being taken apart by the eager primates.

Washington, DC - The United States is suspending its participation in bilateral channels with Russia that were established to sustain the Cessation of Hostilities. This is not a decision that was taken lightly. The United States spared no effort in negotiating and attempting to implement an arrangement with Russia aimed at reducing violence, providing unhindered humanitarian access, and degrading terrorist organizations operating in Syria, including Daesh and al Qaeda in Syria.
