Just Over Half of Adults with Work-Related Asthma Report Having Received a Pneumococcal Vaccine

Washington, DC - Adults with asthma are at increased risk for pneumococcal disease, yet according to a new CDC study published today in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, just 54 percent of adults with work-related asthma - asthma triggered by an exposure at work - have been vaccinated against the infection. CDC recommends all adults 19 through 64 years old with asthma get the pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine.

Washington, DC - America New York RI Wang Food Group, a Maspeth, N.Y. establishment, is recalling approximately 63,823 pounds of Heat Treated but Not Fully Cooked-Not Shelf Stable pork sausage products and beef products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The product contains milk, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label.

Washington, DC - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved the FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System, the first continuous glucose monitoring system that can be used by adult patients to make diabetes treatment decisions without calibration using a blood sample from the fingertip (often referred to as a “fingerstick”).
