Calexico, California. The Court Interpreting Certificate Program at San Diego State University-Imperial Valley Campus has been recognized as the only program in Imperial County that provides bilingual English-Spanish students with access to this highly remunerative profession of growing national and international prominence. In an exclusive interview with KXO Radio, Jo Ann Breeze,
president of the California Court Interpreters Association, commended SDSU’s court interpreting students for their participation at the CCIA annual conferences, where they have conducted research as part of their coursework and otherwise taken advantage of the educational opportunities offered by the CCIA to future interpreters. Program coordinator Dr. Rogelio Reyes highlighted the features of the program, open to fully bilingual English-Spanish students, and the career opportunities it offers: preparation for California state certification as court interpreters, jobs with local government and private agencies, and attending professional conferences at the state, national, and international level—for example, the forthcoming International Congress on Translation and Interpretation at the Autonomous University of Baja California-Mexicali on April 10-12.

The next course in the Court Interpreting Certificate Program, Spanish 492, Translation Theory, will begin on Friday, January 25, at 4:10 p.m. in Room LA2, 720 Heber Avenue in Calexico. The session, open to anyone interested in enrolling in the program, will include a brief overview of the court interpreting profession by CCIA president Jo Ann Breeze and the Honorable Donal Donnely, presiding judge of Imperial County, as well as an informational meeting regarding SDSU’s travel-study program to attend the forthcoming World Congress of the International Federation of Translators in Shanghai, August 4-7. For further information, contact Dr. Rogelio Reyes, tel, 760 768 5532, email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
