| Escondido, California - Johari, a 2-month-old African cheetah, showed off her pearly whites at the San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park on Friday. The cub is one of four cheetahs being hand raised. Three cubs - a male named Shiley (shy-lee) and two females named Taraji (ta-ra-jee) and Johari (jo-ha-ree) - were born on May 24 and were rejected by their mother. On June 17, a single female cheetah named Lindiwe (lynn-dee-way), was born to an inexperienced mother, so keepers intervened. Often when a single cub is born, the mother chooses to walk away because the chance of one cub surviving is minimal. All four cubs were moved to the care center where they are being hand raised by keepers. |
