Glamis, California - The 12th Annual Sand Dunes Cleanup is set for Saturday Janury 17, 2009 at the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area near Glamis.The event is sponsored by United Desert Gateway , a non-profit organization comprised of the Brawley, El Centro and Yuma Chambers of Commerce in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management and other organizations. This event is designed to enhance recreational experience of the Imperial sand Dunes Recreation Area. Off-roaders from throughout the Imperial Valley, Yuma , Southern California and even the Phoenix area take part in the cleanup effort. To participate, sign in at one of the registration sites. In the Glamis area, the main staging area will be at Glamis Flats near the Glamis Store with other sites at Wash Road, Gecko Road and Oldsmobile Hill. In the south part of the dunes,the main staging area will be at Gordons Well , Buttercup and Ogilby Camp. Registration begins at 8:00 am. The first 3,000 registrants will recieve a free t-shirt. Cleanup runs till 11:30 am. Volunteers can then turn in their filled trash bags and recieve tickets for the free drawing. Lunch will be served in the main staging areas from 11:30 am till 12:300 pm. The 12th Annual Dunes Cleanup is sponsored by United Desert Gateway with support from Duners Diner, RideNow Powersports, Monster Energy drink, Quad Magazine, Sand Sports Magazine and the Bureau of Land Management.
