Imperial, California - Vaccines the Opinions - Who is paying Amanda Peet for her outspoken comments about vaccines and vaccinations? The Parents magazine Cookie printed and article recently, which quoted Amanda Peet saying parents who do not vaccinate their children are parasites. Amanda Peet apologized again this morning on the ABC’s Good Morning America’s broadcast about her parasite comment. I ask you, when is an apology not an apology but an excuse to get free publicity for your benefactors? Amanda Peet is an actress and advocate of vaccines as well as a declared spokes person for the American Academy of Pediatrics and doing Public Service Announcements about vaccinating your children. Is an actress a qualified person to speak out on matters of science not having any personal experience or formal training? Peet is speaking out against all the claims recently made by Jenny McCarthy and others about vaccines and what others believe is the connection of vaccines to Autism. Jenny McCarthy is living a personal experience with a child who has been diagnosed with autism. Jenny has involved herself with other parents of autistic children and educated herself regarding the research being done. Jenny is living the research in her own home with a child who was born healthy and became autistic. Jenny McCarthy is an advocate for informed decisions about vaccination and the possible link to autism. Amanda claims to have become informed about vaccines from her child’s pediatrician Dr. Paul Offit. Dr. Offit is a vaccine patent-holder and a paid spokesperson for Merck (a drug and vaccine manufacture. Did ABC check out the background of the actress before airing her apology? Is ABC in anyway connected to Merck through advertisement money? Did Amanda know her pediatrician’s background before allowing him to be her voice of reason? Surly if Amanda is worthy of being the voice of vaccine reason for the general public she has the ability to research her information sources. Paul Offit, M.D is chief of infectious diseases at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the Henle Professor of Immunologic and Infectious Diseases, at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and is the Chief US spokesman for vaccination. Dr. Offit lists that he is a consultant to Merck on an attachment to his OGE 450, but does not disclose whether or not he received any remuneration for his services. Dr. Offit shares the patent on the Rotavirus vaccine in development by Merck and lists a $350,000 grant from Merck for Rotavirus vaccine development. Also, he lists that he is a consultant to Merck. Dr. Offit began his tenure on ACIP- Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices in October of 1998. Out of four votes pertaining to the ACIP’s rotavirus statement he voted “yes” three times, including, voting for the inclusion of the rotavirus vaccine in the Vaccines For Children-VFC program. Dr. Offit abstained from voting on the ACIP’s rescission of the recommendation of the rotavirus vaccine for routine use. He stated at the meeting, “I’m not conflicted with Wyeth, but because I consult with Merck on the development of rotavirus vaccine, I would still prefer to abstain because it creates a perception of conflict.” Dr. Offit shares the patent on the Rotavirus vaccine in development by Merck (Application number 353547 ). He had a $350,000 grant from Merck for Rotavirus vaccine development. Dr. Offit is a consultant to Merck (listed on an attachment to his OGE 450), but does not want to disclose whether or not he received any remuneration for his services. (see http://www.vaccinetruth.org/paul_offit.htm) Paul Offit is the personal tutor of Amanda Peet about the safety of Vaccines. The same Paul Offit who was reprimanded by congress for his ethics problems has found a new way to get his message out to the public and line his pockets. For the rest of the general public who are not convinced vaccines are safe let me refer all of you to other informational sources. U.S. Congress passed the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act in 1986 and the Vaccine Compensation Amendments in 1987 and 1995. The Act establishes a compensation system for those persons who may be injured by routine vaccinations. The system is intended to be expeditious and fair. It is also intended to compensate persons with vaccine injuries without requiring the difficult individual determination of causation of injury and without a demonstration that a manufacturer was negligent or that a vaccine was defective H.R. Rep. 99-908, 99th Cong., (1986).
What Vaccines are covered?

“About the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program Per the United States Department of Justice http://www.usdoj.gov/civil/torts/const/vicp/about.htm the VICP is a program designed to encourage childhood vaccination by providing a streamlined system for compensation in rare instances where an injury results from vaccination.
Over the past 12 years, the VICP has succeeded in providing a less adversarial, less expensive and less time-consuming system of recovery than the traditional tort system that governs medical malpractice, personal injury and product liability cases. More than 1,500 people have been paid in excess of $1.18 billion since the inception of the program in 1988.
Individuals who believe they have been injured by a covered vaccine can file a claim against the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims seeking compensation from the Vaccine Trust Fund. The Department of Justice (DOJ), which represents HHS, consistently works to ensure that fair compensation is awarded in every case that meets the eligibility criteria. If found eligible, claimants can recover compensation for related medical and rehabilitative expenses, and in certain cases, may be awarded funds for pain and suffering and future lost earnings. Often, an award is more than $1 million. By protecting the Trust Fund against claims by those who have not suffered a vaccine-related injury, DOJ helps to preserve the Fund for future deserving claimants. Regardless of a claimant’s success under the Program, reasonable attorneys’ fees and costs are paid.
Vaccines covered under the program include those that protect against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), measles, mumps, rubella (German measles), and polio. The program continues to evolve consistent with medical science, and recently, HHS expanded coverage to four new vaccines: hepatitis B, varicella (chicken pox), Hemophilus influenza type b, and rotavirus; pneumococcal vaccine will soon be covered, too.
Another positive result of the program is that costly litigation against drug manufacturers and health care professionals who administer vaccines has virtually ceased. Although an individual who is dissatisfied with the Court’s final judgment can reject it and file a lawsuit in state or federal court, very few lawsuits have been filed since the program began. The supply of vaccines in the U.S. has been stabilized, and the development of new vaccines has markedly increased.”
